2022 MOC Open

MURDER OF CROWS BARBELL is proud to be hosting their 7th Annual USAW Sanctioned Competition, the Murder of Crows Open!  

The competition will be hosted over 2 days on Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12 at Murder of Crows, 1010 Dean Street, Brooklyn, NY 11238.  Women will lift on Saturday, and Men will lift on Sunday.  Each day will finish with a Prime Time group consisting of the Top 15 athletes by using the Sinclair Formula for their declared entry total and declared weight class. Registration will be capped at 120 athletes, so don't miss out!

NEW THIS YEAR, we are excited announce that we’ll be awarding a cash prize of $1500 FOR THE BEST TEAM!!!  2nd & 3rd place teams will be awarded banners to hang in their gym.  Teams will consist of 5 members that must be registered by May 22, 2022.  Teams may be co-ed and all members must be registered with the same sanctioned club.  A single club can have multiple teams, but an athlete can only be part of one team for this competition.  Teams must be registered for $50 by following the link below.

The Best Male and Best Female Lifters will be awarded $200 each.  You must lift in the Prime Time session to be eligible for Best Lifter Awards.  

Medals will be awarded to:

  • Top 3 Totals for Each Weight Class in the Open Division.

  • Top 3 Totals for Each Weight Class in the Junior Division.

  • Top 3 Totals for Each Weight Class in the Youth Division.

  • Top 1 Total for Each Weight Class in Masters ages 35 – 49.

  • Top 1 Total for Each Weight Class in Masters ages 50+.

Medals will be awarded at the end of the day.  

Athletes must be current USAW members (as of day they are lifting) and must compete in a singlet.  All who enter the facility must show proof of a full course of COVID-19 vaccination.  YOUTH & JUNIORS are eligible for reduced rates ($45).  Please contact the Meet Director for information on how to register.  

The Prime Time group will consist of the top 15 lifters based on Sinclair Formula + Entry Total.  Lifters MUST open according to the 20kg/20kg rule in the Prime Time Group.  Lifters must lift in the Prime Time Group to be eligible for prize money.

SATURDAY:

·         Session 1:  Women (45 – 59):  Weigh In: 8AM/Lift: 10AM

·         Session 2:  Women (64 - 71):  Weigh In: 10:15AM/Lift: 12:15PM

·         Session 3:  Women (76 – 87+):  Weigh In: 12:30PM/Lift: 2:30PM

·         Session 4:  Women (Prime Time):  Weigh In: 2:45PM/Lift: 4:45PM


SUNDAY:

·         Session 1:  Men (55 – 73):  Weigh In: 8AM/Lift: 10AM

·         Session 2:  Men (81 - 89):  Weigh In: 10:15AM/Lift: 12:15PM

·         Session 3:  Men (96 – 109+):  Weigh In: 12:30PM/Lift: 2:30PM

·         Session 4:  Men: (Prime Time):  Weigh In: 2:45PM/Lift: 4:45PM
 

Spectators can purchase a ticket for entry for $5 at the event, cash or Venmo only.  Athletes will be provided one (1) athlete pass and two (2) coach passes for the day upon check in.  Access to the warm up room will be given to those holding passes 30 minutes before the athlete's session starts.

REFUND POLICY:  Athletes may receive a 50% refund up to May 15nd, 2022.  NO REFUNDS OR TRANSFERS OF REGISTRATION AFTER MAY 15th.  

ATHLETES MUST PRESENT A GOVERNMENT ID (or Student ID/Birth Certificate if under 18) at Weigh In.  Digital picture is fine.  

ATHLETES and COACHES MUST abide by all COVID-19 protocols or will be asked to leave. WE WILL UPDATE protocols based on the latest state guidance at the time of the competition.

USA Weightlifting Level 1

Course Description:

In this two-day course, participants will gain practical information from top-level coaches about weightlifting technique, assessing movement, motor learning, biomechanics, effective coaching, and programming training. In addition to covering scientifically based concepts to optimize training and skill learning, a large portion of the course will be hands-on teaching and application of the complete technical progressions of the snatch, clean and jerk, and assistance lifts. Learn highly effective coaching tips and cues from our veteran weightlifting coaches, who will help you safely and effectively implement Olympic lifting movements in training weightlifters, clients, and athletes of all ages and abilities.  
This course balances hands-on learning, in-depth discussions of technical progressions, and science-based programming information. Gain access to proven training plans to get your athletes or clients started with Olympic lifting and enjoy the support of USAW to help you further your knowledge about training and coaching athletes.
At the end of the course, participants should feel comfortable understanding and implementing a training plan, teaching beginner and intermediate athletes how to perform weightlifting movements, quickly correcting common technique errors, and employing best practices in coaching. Whether you are looking to get started coaching weightlifting, refine your coaching skills, or apply the weightlifting movements to other sports, this course is a valuable investment in your career.

Extensive course manual with videos of all exercise progressions, helpful resources, and sample weightlifting programming.

Prerequisites:

Other than an active USA Weightlifting membership, there are no prerequisites for this course. The course is open to anyone 17 or older, and no prior experience coaching or performing Olympic lifting is required.

For those looking for a place to lift Virtually in the competition, the gyms below have offered times where they can accommodate your lifting session. The ability to use the facility, tech equipment, and competition equipment is dependent on final lifting schedule. Cost to use facility is $50 to be paid to the facility. Facilities will do their best to accommodate.

Join USA Weightlifting members across the country in two new online competition opportunities to qualify for the following events:

2021 National Events

Requirements: 
-Athletes must be current USA Weightlifting members
-Athletes must register for the event on BARS
-Athletes must submit all required information on the entry page
-Athletes must submit videos with a visible timestamp, clock or timer at all times in both the weigh in and lift submissions
-A photo of athlete weight with clock displayed will be accepted in lieu of a video
-Videos must be set at 400cm from the athletes start position or make best effort if that is not possible ensure the video shows the athlete from overhead lock out to floor
-Camera must be placed directly in front of the athlete and raised directly in front of the athlete i.e. videos filmed from the ground will not be accepted
-If you have a lock out issue before starting the lift show the judges your full extension pause then lift
-Weights may be in KG or LB in video submissions but must be written in KG
-Black pound plates must display weight markers in the video either at the beginning or end of the submission
-Weight must be submitted in kg to the lowest whole number for ex. 100.8kg will be recorded as 100kg
-A singlet must be worn


Rules:
- This event will be used as a local competition opportunity. Athletes will be required to weigh in and compete within the same 2 hour time limit as they would at a local event
- Due to the nature of this event we ask that all athletes compete with integrity and to respect their fellow athletes when sending in submissions
- Pulling straps are not allowed
- Videos that do not include a weight check are prohibited
- Excessive weight cutting methods are not endorsed or allowed
- In the case of a tie the athlete that posted their video submission first will be awarded


Review:
- Submissions will be reviewed by National referees and above for approval and qualification
- If your submission is rejected you will receive and email informing you of the decision
- If your submission is accepted you will see the results uploaded to your member profile
- Award winners will be notified and published within 1 week of the close of the competition

- If your submission is accepted you will see the results uploaded to your member profile within 1 week after competition close
- Athletes will receive an approval email from the moderator within 24 hours when their results are available for review in the gallery on the submission site

Top 3 TOTAL placement awards will be given in the following categories

USA Weightlifting Level 1

Course Description: In this two-day course, participants will gain practical information about how to safely and effectively teach how to snatch, clean, squat, and jerk as well as how to best utilize weightlifting movements for beginner lifters and sport performance athletes.

A large portion of the course is hands-on teaching, coaching, and applying the USAW five-stage progressions of the snatch, clean, and jerk. Coaches will also have the opportunity to perform mobility assessments, coach major lifts such as squats and presses, and practice correcting common technique flaws in the lifts. Throughout the course you will learn highly effective coaching tips and cues from our veteran instructors. 

This course balances hands-on learning, in-depth discussions of technical progressions, and science-based programming information to help you refine your coaching skills. Gain access to proven training plans to get your athletes or clients started with Olympic lifting and enjoy the support of USAW to help you further your knowledge about training and coaching athletes. At the end of the course, participants should feel comfortable understanding and implementing a training plan, teaching beginner and intermediate athletes how to perform weightlifting movements, quickly correcting common technique errors, and employing best practices in coaching. Whether you are looking to get started coaching weightlifting, refine your coaching skills, or apply the weightlifting movements to other sports, this course is a valuable investment in your career.

Course Materials:
The course is housed digitally inside the USAW Learning Academy and consists of eight comprehensive course modules, which can be accessed four weeks before the course begins and for as long as the coach remains certified. While there are downloadable .pdf resources available in the online course, a downloadable manual is not provided. This is to ensure all coaches always have access to the most current content.

Prerequisites:
Registration for the course requires an active USA Weightlifting Coach, or Coach and Athlete, membership. There are no additional prerequisites for this course. The course is open to anyone 17 or older. No experience with coaching or performing the lifts is required. We routinely welcome beginners and seasoned veteran coaches in our courses.

CEUs/CECs:
This course has a total of 13 contact hours and is eligible for CEUs and CECs through a variety of professional organizations through self-report. The course is preapproved for 1.3 NASM CEUs and 13 AAFA CEUs. For exact reporting requirements, please see our FAQs here.

This online event will provide athletes with qualification to the following events:

  • ANY NATIONAL EVENT THAT OCCURS WITHIN ONE YEAR OF THE ONLINE EVENT RESULTS UPLOAD.

Requirements

  • Athletes must be current USA Weightlifting members

  • Athletes must register for the event on BARS

  • Athlete must wear a singlet to compete

  • Athletes must submit entries to www.usaweightlifting.events

  • Athletes must submit all required information on the entry page

  • Athletes must submit videos with a visible timestamp, clock or timer at all times in both the weigh in and lift submissions

  • A photo of athlete weight with clock displayed will be accepted in lieu of a video

Examples:

VIDEO SUBMISSION EXAMPLE

  • Athletes may choose to weigh in and immediately lift. The examples below are meant as a guideline.

  • Video submission clock example: If the athlete weighs in at 1 pm the snatch video should be between 3pm and 4pm and the clean and jerk should be between 4pm and 5pm with the clock displayed to reflect.

  • Video submission timer example: Alternatively with a timer the start time should be from 1min to 60min (1hour), 120min to 180min for the snatch, and 180 to 240min for the clean and jerk.
